Sudoku - General Information

Sudoku is played on a 9x9 grid. Generally numbers are filled in randomly inside the grid (however sometimes you might see the odd sudoku which contains letters instead of numbers). The random numbers consist of numbers 1 thru 9. Here is an example of how a typically sudoku might look like.

Sudoku Puzzle

There are 9 boxed regions in a sudoku puzzle (as shown)

The goal or main objective of the sudoku puzzle is to fill the entire grid with numbers (or letters). Here are the general rules to complete a sudoku puzzle

  • Each number must be different inside the BOXED REGION (so 1 thru 9 with no duplicate numbers).
  • Each number must be different in an entire ROW of a sudoku puzzle.
  • Each number must be different in an entire COLUMN of a sudoku puzzle.
  • Numbers DO NOT have be different going diagonally either way on a sudoku puzzle.

There are usually 3 sorts of difficult for a sudoku puzzle. Easy, Medium and Hard. However there is also another level which is an extra step more harder than this which does require "guessing" certain numbers when working through the puzzle. Sudoku is an easy puzzle to learn, however can take a long time to master it.
